STAFFORD — The Stafford County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday approved a loan to the Stafford Regional Airport for the construction of a new airport terminal building.
The estimated cost of the building is $3.6 million, according to Henry Scharpenberg of the airport authority, who made a presentation. Of that, $2.2 million will be funded by the Virginia Department of Aviation and the loan will be for $1.4 million from Stafford County through its Transportation Fund, according to discussion.
Work is expected to begin in the fall, with the facility finished likely in the summer of 2014.
Currently the airport terminal is a doublewide trailer.
In other news, the board of supervisors unanimously approved a resolution for a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) policy, developing guidelines based on the large number of FOIA requests it is subject to receive at times. One of the guidelines dealt with cost, FOIA charges and salaries.
