A 70-year-old man riding in his 2002 Corvette was killed late Monday morning when the car flipped on Manning Drive.

The crash happened about 11:45 a.m. about 3,000 feet from U.S. 1, said Virginia State Police Sgt. F.L. Tyler.

Tyler said Aaron T. Frazier, 40, of Fredericksburg, was driving the convertible sports car and lost control. The car crossed the center line, ran off the road to the left, struck a ditch and flipped upside down.

Frazier, who was wearing a seatbelt, was taken to Mary Washington Hospital with serious injuries.

The passenger, Gregory A. Hurst, 70, of Fredericksburg, died at the scene. Tyler said he was wearing his seatbelt. Hurst owned the Corvette.

State police said speed was a factor. No charges had been filed Monday evening but the investigation continued.
