Two full-service hospitals are located near Stafford — one to the south in the City of Fredericksburg and another just north of the county in Prince William. Soon, Stafford County will house its own hospital, as MediCorp Health System is building one that is slated to open in 2009.

Mary Washington Hospital
Mary Washington Hospital, operated by MediCorp, is located at 1001 Sam Perry Blvd. in Fredericksburg. It houses more than 400 beds and offers diagnostic, medical and surgical services. Its medical staff consists of more than 300 physicians and health professionals, according to its Web site.

The hospital runs the Virginia Heart and Vascular Institute, Human Motion Institute and Amy Guest Center for Women and Children. Its programs include diabetes management, cancer, robotic surgery and rehabilitation.

To contact Mary Washington Hospital, call (540) 741-1100. Hospital information is also available at medicorp.org/mwh or by calling MediCorp’s 24-hour automated information library at (540) 741-1404.

Potomac Hospital
Last year, Potomac Hospital, located at 2300 Opitz Blvd. in Prince William County, celebrated its 35th anniversary. The hospital opened in 1972, making it the first civilian hospital to open between Alexandria and Fredericksburg.

Potomac Hospital, an affiliate of Inova Health System, is a 183-bed, not-for-profit community hospital that employs more than 1,000 people. Its services include a cancer center, cardiology, diabetes management, emergency care, an infusion center, mammography, obstetrics, pediatrics, pulmonary rehabilitation, radiology, a sleep center, a spine center, surgical services and robotic-assisted surgery.

The hospital added an 180,000 square-foot facility pegged as “The New Potomac Hospital” in 2006, its Web site states.

To contact Potomac Hospital, call (703) 670-1313 or (540) 659-1800 or visit the Web site at potomachospital.com.

Stafford Hospital Center
Construction continues at MediCorp’s Stafford Hospital Center, which is located on a 72-acre campus at the corner of Courthouse Road and U.S. 1.

The hospital will include 100 inpatient beds, medical and surgical units, an intensive care unit, a labor and delivery unit, an emergency department, a surgical suite, cardiac services, neurological testing, respiratory therapy, physical medicine and rehabilitation, a pharmacy, a helipad and more, its Web site lists.

Members of the Stafford County Board of Supervisors toured the hospital site in July.

Urgent and Primary Care
Recently, MediCorp partnered with NextCare Urgent Care, a national provider of urgent care, to build three new urgent care centers in the region. Its first location opened in June on Plank Road in Fredericksburg. Another location is scheduled to open in November on White Oak Road in Stafford, according to NextCare’s Web site. A third center is slated to open in south Stafford on South Gateway Drive in January.

Other urgent care facilities in Stafford include Urgent Care of Stafford on Garrisonville Road, Garrisonville Urgent Care on Center Street and Aquia Family Medical Center in North Stafford. Patients may also seek medical attention at several health care centers in the county, including the Medical Center of Stafford on Garrisonville Road, Medic-1 in Hartwood, Pratt Medical Center in Garrisonville, and the Surgi-Center of Central Virginia on Chatham Heights Road.

To contact the Stafford County Health Department, call (540) 659-3101.
