GAINESVILLE- Golfers will gather Heritage Hunt Golf & Country Club on Oct. 2 for the Ninth Annual Heritage Charity Golf Classic.

It is a cancer-fighting effort that last year raised $700,000 for national and regional cancer programs since 2000.

Last year’s 2007 Charity Golf Classic and related efforts raised a combined total of $110,000 to help fight cancer. The funds were donated to the American

Cancer Society, the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center at Georgetown University and the Cancer Center at Lake Manassas.

Entrants in the 2008 Charity Golf Classic will play on Heritage Hunt’s Arthur Hills-designed championship course, which stretches 5,746 yards from its
standard men’s tees past challenges including the testing 456-yard par 5 signature 14th hole.

Prizes for the more than 100 contestants will include awards for lowest team scores, longest men’s and women’s drives, most accurate drives by men and women, and other features including an unusual double hole-in-one prize event.  Any golfer who holes a tee shot on the 9th hole, a par 3, will win a Harley

Davidson motorcycle.  In addition, any player who holes his or her tee shot on the 155-yard 18th hole, shooting from an elevated tee down to the guarded finishing green, will win a Ford Mustang convertible.

Many playing spots in the tournament have already been allocated to entrants who have signed up as tournament sponsors, Classic managers said, but playing-sponsor spots beginning at $3,500 per foursome remain available for assignment, along with other sponsorship and contribution opportunities.

For more information about sponsorship openings and tournament details, call the Heritage Hunt Pro Shop at (703) 743-1000.
