Bookmobile schedule
The Stafford County Bookmobile will be in the area May 6: In Cornerstone at 10 a.m., McKendree Manor at 11 a.m., English Oaks at 11:45 a.m., Falls Run at 1:45 p.m., Geico at 2:30 p.m., Old Forge at 3:15 and at Stafford Lakes at 4 p.m.
On May 8 the van will be at Fredericksbrug Christian Academy at 9:30 a.m.
North Stafford High to hold plant sale
The North Stafford High School Horticulture students will be holding their annual spring plant sale, starting May 5, from 8 a.m to 3 p.m. The students will be selling bedding plants, hanging baskets, vegetables and herbs, among other items. The sale will be held inside the school’s greenhouse, located on the east side of the high school. For more information call (540) 658-6150.
Assistance offered to local veterans
A free workshop on Veterans Aid & Attendance Pension will be held at Potomac Place on May 6 at 6 p.m. Wartime veterans or the surviving spouse of a veteran and those in need of assisted living may be entitled to a significant monthly income from the Veterans Administration. Attendees are invited to learn what benefits are available, who qualifies and how to apply. This event is open to the public.
Potomac Place is located at 2133 Montgomery Ave. in Woodbridge.
Borders holds book drive
Borders bookstore located in Stafford Marketplace is holding a book drive through May 3. The retailer said customers will be informed about how to donate to the drive when they visit the store. All the books donated will be distributed to Stafford schools for use in various programs including summer reading programs.
City to hold emergency drill
The City of Fredericksburg is participating in a Point of Distribution exercise in cooperation with the Virginia’s Department of Emergency Management and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on May 3. Beginning at 9 a.m. at the Walker Grant Upper Elementary School parking lot at 1 Learning Lane, area citizens are invited to participate by driving their cars through the designated lane to pick up supplies that would be especially useful in the event of a hurricane: plastic tarps, bottled water and Meals-Ready-to-Eat.
