Bluemont series needs volunteers
The Bluemont in Fredericksburg Committee is calling for volunteers and sponsors to help with its 2008 season of summer concerts. The volunteer call will be held June 4 from 7 to 8 p.m. at the General Store Restaurant in Fredericksburg. Community groups, families, and individuals come out to every concert to help welcome guests, take admissions, set up for the show and help break down the site at the end of the evening. Mount Vernon to give away china
In celebration of the exhibition, “Setting the President’s Table: American Presidential China,” visitors to Mount Vernon will have a chance every day from June 1 to August 31 to win a piece of porcelain featuring the Martha Washington “States” pattern. A retail value of $45, this popular reproduction comes boxed with a recipe from the Washingtons and a certificate of authenticity. A grand prize winner will receive an entertainment set including a teapot, pedestal cake plate, creamer, sugar bowl, four cups and saucers and four dessert plates, valued at $750. Drawings occur daily at 3 p.m. in the Shops at Mount Vernon, and the grand prize will be drawn on August 31. No purchase is required, and visitors do not have to be present to win.

Vacation Bible school to be held
Summit Presbyterian Church will hold a summer Bible School from June 23-27 from 9 a.m. to noon for ages four, to rising fifth graders. The theme for the Bible School is Beach Party is Surfin’ through the Scripture. There is no charge. Call Marianne Stepp at (540) 659-5464 for more information.

Volunteers sought for Great Dane rescue
The Northern Virginia chapter of the Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League seeks to help Great Danes find the loving homes they so richly deserve.
There are 60-70 Great Danes in the rescue’s care at any given time and fundraising efforts often help cover costs.

ASPCA will hold annual benefit
The Greater Fredericksburg ASPCA will hold its annual benefit, Wine and Whiskers, on July 19 from 6-10 p.m. at the Lake Anna Winery, 5621 Courthouse Road in Spotsylvania.

It will feature wine tastings, appetizers and dessert, a silent auction and live music.

Proceeds will go to benefit homeless animals through the ASPCA.Reservations are required, with a cost of $45 per person.
