Former Sun editor to marry near bridge-collapse anniversary
STAFFORD — Garrett Ebling, former managing editor of the Stafford County Sun, is getting on with his life. Aug. 1 marks a full year that’s gone by since the I-35W bridge collapse in Minnesota that badly injured him and nearly took his life.
This weekend, Ebling will say “I do” to Sonja Birkeland, the woman who has stood by his side through his recovery. The couple plans to marry before family and friends, and move on to the next chapter of their lives.
Ebling, who had proposed to Birkeland just a few days before the bridge collapse, still suffers from injuries from that fateful day.
See the AP video of Ebling and Birkeland below, under “Video: Breaking News,” discussing their impending marriage and the day that the bridge collapsed.
