STAFFORD — The last day local residents were allowed to register and be eligible to vote in the upcoming election was Oct. 6. Absentee voter registration must have been postmarked by that same date.

Those who are already registered to vote in Stafford County do not need to re-register. The Constitution of Virginia requires that people be registered in the precinct of their residence, so they need to alert the registrar if they’ve moved. The registrar can be reached by sending a note to P.O. Box 301, Stafford, 22555.

In order to get the application form to receive the ballots to make an absentee vote, voters must call (540) 658-4000 or visit the registrar’s Web site at co.stafford.va.us/registrar to download the form, which must be filled out and returned by Oct. 28.

Oct. 28 is also the last day that a request for a ballot by mail may be accepted. Returned ballots must be received by 7 p.m. on Nov. 4.

Absentee voting in person will be done in the registrar’s office up until Nov. 1, from Mon. through Fri. from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. The office will hold special hours on Oct. 25 and Nov. 1, from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Nov. 1 is the last day to vote an absentee ballot in person.

Please call (540) 658-4000 for instructions if an absentee ballot will be needed due to hospitalization or incapacitation on or after Oct. 28.

If a voter becomes obligated to be absent on Nov. 4 after 12 p.m. on Nov. 1 due to business or medical emergencies, the voter may apply for and receive a ballot in the registrar’s office before 2 p.m. on Nov. 3.

All requests for reasonable accommodations due to a disability should be made to the registrar with at least 48 hours advance notice.
