Garrisonville Elementary

The Garrisonville Kindergators are really in the swing of school. They have begun to read books for the Red, White and Blue. Each child votes on whether they liked their book or not. The children have been practicing their letters and sounds. They have also practiced their counting and identifying shapes. They have learned about fire safety and soon they will learn about flotation. Second-grade students are investigating weather in October. Students are participating in experiments, led by their questions. They are creating models of the water cycle and acting out evaporation, condensation and precipitation in poems and songs.

In Tom Harris’ art class, third-grade students are working on creating artwork featuring the community citizenship word of the month. Maria Green’s class is focusing on “responsibility” while Veronica Childs’ class is focusing on “honesty.” Mary Jo Hiles’ class is featuring “kindness” and Shannon Zardezed’s class working on “courage” through their pictures.

Fifth-graders have recently started their Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) classes. Under the instruction of Deputy Wally Johnson, the students are learning strategies to help them make better choices as they get older.
