STAFFORD - William Mitchell, 40, of Stafford County, was charged with maliciously wounding a 66-year-old man Tuesday, according to Bill Kennedy, public information officer for the Stafford County Sheriffs Office.

The incident occurred between 12:30 and 2:30 p.m., as an alleged agreement was made between both men that Mitchell was going to repair the victim's automobile, according to a sheriff's office report.

Mitchell reportedly asked for $200 in cash to purchase parts for the repair. The 66-year-old provided the money, according to Kennedy, who said that when the older man returned to inquire about the progress of the repair, he saw no parts had been purchased and Mitchell was working on another vehicle.

The two men entered into a verbal exchange, and the customer reportedly left the shop. Upon the man's second return to Mitchell's shop later in the afternoon, another exchange occurred between the two men, with Mitchell allegedly hitting the customer in the head with a 2x4 block of wood.

The customer was initially treated at his home on Potomac Run Road in Stafford County, but later was transported to Mary Washington Hospital due to further complications from his injuries.

Mitchell is being held at Rappahannock Regional Jail, according to Kennedy.
