Ten trash trucks belonging to Shifflett’s Trash Service were vandalized late last week, prompting Stafford County investigators to search for the perpetrator.
All of the trucks owned by the company were damaged, except for one, according to Eugene “Bubba” Shifflett, owner of Shifflett’s Trash Service. The incident occurred on Le Way Drive in the Berea area of the county.
“We’ve been in business here in Stafford since 1982 and we have never had anything like this happen to us,” said Shifflett.
Shifflett said the damage will cost him an estimated $7,000 to repair, but will not stop or hinder his business.
“It is unusual to see this many trucks damaged in one particular area, at one business,” said Bill Kennedy, Stafford County Sheriff’s Office spokesman.
In addition to the damage on the driver’s and passenger’s side windows of the trucks, Shifflett said his son discovered that one of the company’s employees had the windshield of his car shot out. Shifflett said he recovered the bullet near the vehicle and reported it to the sheriff’s office the same day.
Shifflett said he has suspicions as to who may be responsible for the vandalisms but admits that without evidence he is unable to prove his theory. The incident remains under investigation by the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office.
Anyone with information about the vandalisms is asked to call the county sheriff’s office at (540) 658- 4400
