Stafford taxpayers beware. When you received your tax assessment for 2008, you were elated to see that the assessment on your home was reduced, but the assessment on your land was increased. You were shocked when you received your tax bill and learned that your taxes for this year were substantially more than last year even in such bad economic times. You should know about developments on the horizon that will substantially increase your taxes in the future.
The board of supervisors is considering an ordinance called the Potomac River Resources Protection Overlay District. The ordinance and supervisors Sterling, Dudenhefer, and Milde are opposed. I urge all taxpayers in Stafford County to oppose this ordinance. Call or write your supervisor and attend any future meetings concerning this ordinance to express your opposition. You can obtain the telephone number of your supervisor on the Internet at co.stafford.va.us.departments or by calling the Stafford County administration office at (540) 658-8603.
