STAFFORD — A former University of Mary Washington President has been arrested in Maryland on his third drunken driving charge in a year.
William John Frawley, 54, of Chevy Chase, Md., was arrested April 10 for allegedly attempting to drive his car under the influence of alcohol, according to court documents.
The arrest occurred at 10:50 p.m., when a Montgomery County police officer pulled Frawley over near Connecticut Ave., a major thouroughfare leading into the District of Columbia.
On April 10 of last year, Fredericksburg police arrested Frawley on another DUI charge, and a refusal to take a Breathalyzer test. Witnesses to that event said Frawley crossed the Chatham Street Bridge, driving without a front wheel on his car.
Frawley was fired from the Fredericksburg university on April 30 of last year, serving just nine months as the school’s president.
A Fredericksburg judge later convicted Frawley of the DUI charge and suspended his license for one year.
Frawley was driving with a Maryland license at the time of his most recent arrest. No trial date has been set yet.
