The Colonial Forge High School wrestling team made it two straight Group AAA state championships on Saturday. At Oscar Smith High School in Chesapeake, the Eagles crowned four individual state champs and rolled to the state title by 64.5 points over runner-up Great Bridge High School.

Michael Garofalo (125), Joe Pantaleo (125), Oscar Huntley (171), and his brother Max Huntley (189) all captured state titles for the Eagles. Junior Shane Gentry fell in the 112 state final. Senior Felton Banks was third in the 215-pound weight class and Ian and Drew Squires both finished fourth at 125 and 135 respectfully.

Mountain View High School had a pair of wrestlers finish fourth; Shane Black at 152 and his brother Conor Black at 160. Brooke Point High School senior Josh Deel garnered all-state honors after his fifth-place finish at 145. Congratulations to Coach Bill Swink and his assistant Mark Black.

At the Group AAA state gymnastics meet, North Stafford's Carissa Potente finished seventh in the all-around standings. She tied for second in the floor exercise with Ocean Lakes Haven Spirelis. The meet was held at Tallwood High School in Virginia Beach on Saturday.

The North Stafford High School girls' basketball team advanced to the Commonwealth District tournament championship game for the first time in four years Saturday. The Wolverines trailed 14-11 after the first quarter but erupted for 18 points in the second quarter and cruised to a 55-35 win over Albemarle High School. Junior Samona Ingram pumped in 20 of her game-high 22 points in the first half to lead North Stafford. She hit some outside shots that created openings for other players.

"I sure did. It opened up back doors and other people were hitting threes so I think it opened up a lot of our offense," Ingram said.

Senior Kelly Reinwald added seven points and said she likes the way the Wolverines are playing.

"We just beat three really good teams with solid whole game efforts, defensive and offensive, so I think were peaking as we should," she said.

North Stafford coach Patricia Oliver said she was concerned after the opening eight minutes, but after that first quarter, the nerves and jitters were out of the way.
