It looks like the race for the top spot in the Commonwealth District baseball standings is going to be almost as wild as the boys’ basketball race was in the winter.
Mountain View High School looked looked like it was in control in the early season but the Wildcats dropped two out of three district games last week, capped off with a narrow 9-8 loss at Colonial Forge High School.
Shane Paskanik had a pair of home runs including a three-run shot to lead the Eagles. Stafford Senior High School has won two of its last three district games.
Monday night the Indians blanked Brooke Point High School 10-0. Kyle Angelet had two hits, scored twice and stole two bases for the Indians. Steven Lamar also chipped for Stafford with a pair of hits and he drove in two runs. Patrick Marshall was strong on the mound for the Indians, yielding just three hits and striking out six.
The Colonial Forge boys’ soccer team is unbeaten is district play. The Eagles edged Stafford last Friday 3-2 as senior Matt Tucker netted the game winner. Ryan Yantz and Gene Daniels also scored for Colonial Forge. The Colonial Forge girls’ soccer is also sporting an unbeaten record in district competition. Mountain View and North Stafford High School are both two games behind the Eagles.
