The frustration of losing to Albemarle High School by two points at last year's Commonwealth District swimming championships spurred the North Stafford High School girl's to a dominating team title Jan. 26.

Senior Kelly Reightler won two individual events and was a member of two winning relay teams as the North Stafford Wolverines racked up 116 points to easily outdistance runner-up Albemarle who finished with 86.

North Stafford's winning 200 medley relay team consisted of Sarah Grawe, Catie Schmitz, Sandy Suhling and Reightler. The 400 free relay team from North Stafford, which also finished first, included Alexis Brana, Suhling, Grawe and Reightler.

Brooke Point High School junior Meredith Cavalier won the 200 individual medley and the 100 backstroke in district record time in both events. Colonial Forge High School junior Caroline Simmons also claimed two events, the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle. She was the defending champ in both events.

Mountain View High School's Ashley Pfannenstein captured the 100 breaststroke.

In the boy's competition, Albemarle won the team title with a score of 170.5. Brooke Point was second with 82.5. Mountain View's Andy Abramaity won the 50 freestyle, edging top-seed Paul Boucher of Albemarle.

Well this week it's the Stafford boy's basketball team that sits on top of the Commonwealth District standings. With a narrow two point win Friday January 25 over Albemarle, the Indians hold a one game lead over six teams. Stafford is at North Stafford on Tuesday January 28 in another key district contest.

The Colonial Forge wrestling team is gearing up for the Commonwealth District championships on Feb. 9 at Mountain View. The eagles had four individual champions as they took first place at the Marine Corps Ultimate Challenge on Jan. 26.

Michael Garofolo (119 pounds), Joe Pantaleo (130), Oscar Huntley (171) and Max Huntley (189) took first in their respective weight classes to lead Colonial Forge, which finished with 415 points.

Mount St. Joseph from Baltimore was second with 318 points. Garofolo was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Wrestler for the lower weight class, while Oscar Huntley was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler for the upper weight class. Brooke Point finished seventh.
