STAFFORD — Brooke Point High School graduate April Sinkler has earned All-America honors in two weekend events at the USA Junior Track & Field Championships.
The 2007 Brooke Point graduate, now a freshman at Clemson University in South Carolina, came in sixth place in both the long jump and high jump on Saturday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in Columbus, OH.
A native of Stafford, Sinkler earned a personal best when she started her day with the long jump and earned a top mark of 20’0.5.”
After six attempts, she was prepared for the high jump but a rain delay lasting nearly two hours held things off. The extra recovery time helped Sinkler, who was able to clear 5’7.25” on her second attempt. She tried for 5’8.5”, but came up short on three tries, according to a press release from Clemson University Athletics.
Sinkler ranks tied for second in Clemson’s record books in the outdoor high jump, where she holds a top clearance of 5’8.75” from earlier this season.
